A Regional Festival of Arts and Culture has been celebrated in the Upper West Regional capital Wa in preparation for the National festival to be held in Accra. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Promoting a culture of peace for national unity and socio-economic empowerment”.
The Deputy Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Mushiebu Mohammed Alfa, in an address reiterated that, government wished to use festivals as a strategy to create wealth in the creative Arts and Tourism Industries.
He added that the region abounds in natural and historic sites unparallel in the country. They include the famous Wa Naa’s palace, Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary, the Gwollu Slave Defense Wall and Arts among others.
Hon. Dr. Mushiebu urged all stakeholders, including Municipal and District Assemblies, the Centre for National Culture, Civil Society groups to focus their energies towards the regions participation in the National Festival of Arts and Culture that is scheduled to take place in the Greater Accra Region later this year. He said it was his hope and expectation that the Cultural troupes would compete favourably when they represent the region at the national festival in Accra.
The regional director for the Center for National Culture Mr. Dagbe called on the participation of all cultural troupes to effectively represent the region in this year’s National Art and Culture Festival.
He also pleaded with all and sundry to keep a peaceful and violent free region in the upcoming December 7th elections.
