Members of the Nandom District Assembly, on Thursday 27th October, confirmed President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for his second term of office.
Mr. Cuthbert Kuupiel Baba, a 44-year-old Development Planning Officer, got the mandate of the 33-member house, garnering 100% approval by polling 33 votes.
Mr. Baba pledged not to let the President down in the implementation of policies and programmes of the government to improve the livelihood of the people.
He noted that the district was one of the deprived in the Upper West Region, and needed more development projects to catch up with the well-endowed ones.
The new DCE said with the support of the assembly members, traditional rulers and other opinion leaders, poverty would be alleviated in the district.
Mr. Baba said the quest for development would not come on a silver platter if the people did not complement the efforts of the government, and also give peace a chance, to sustain the process.
He, therefore, encouraged stakeholders in the district to bury their political differences, and partner him to bring development to the area, towards meeting the needs and aspirations of the people.
“Let us all listen to the concerns of the people and work as a team to address them,” Mr. Baba said, and appealed to the political parties and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with civility, in order not to jeopardise the peace prevailing in the area.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Ing. Amin Amidu Sulemani, advised members of the assembly to put political colours aside and unite for the development of the district.
He said the government would not relent in its efforts to develop the district to enhance the living conditions of the people.
Alhaji Sulemani said the overwhelming endorsement was a sign of unity among members of the house, and appealed to them not to end it there, but continue to support the new DCE, for him to deliver.
The Regional Minister advised the DCE to seek the welfare of the people to demonstrate the confidence they had reposed on him. He said this during the swearing in of the DCE at the Regional Coordinating Council on Friday 28/10/2016.
